Position overview
This opportunity is for a WorldQuant Aligned Software Engineer supporting a confidential client in the Investment Management industry. The role sits on a specialized infrastructure team delivering production-quality systems and tooling that enable quantitative research and high-performance production workflows. This is a full-time, entry-level software engineering role based in New York, NY.
What You’ll Do
- Design, implement, test, and maintain production-quality software and internal tools that power quantitative research workflows.
- Work primarily in Python with contributions to performance-sensitive C++ codebases.
- Collaborate daily with quantitative researchers to translate research ideas into robust, maintainable solutions.
- Solve algorithmic and data-structure problems where correctness and performance matter.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and champion engineering best practices and code quality.
- Communicate trade-offs clearly to engineers and domain experts and help bridge research code and production systems.
What We’re Looking For
Minimum qualifications (what makes a strong candidate):
- Strong Python skills and idiomatic programming experience.
- Solid foundation in data structures and algorithms; able to reason about complexity and implement clean solutions.
- Experience or comfort working in Linux environments.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and intellectual curiosity.
- Good verbal and written communication skills for partnering with quantitative researchers and engineers.
- Commitment to code correctness, testing, and maintainable design.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Experience with C++ or demonstrated ability to ramp up quickly on a statically typed, compiled language.
- Exposure to quantitative finance, scientific computing, or other research-focused environments.
- Prior work on performance-sensitive, numerically oriented systems.
- Familiarity with production deployment practices, CI/CD, and observability tooling.
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated base salary range: $175,000 — $250,000 (New York, NY). This range is specific to the New York location and may change in the future; final offers will consider experience and qualifications.
- In addition to base salary, the confidential client typically offers discretionary performance bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, retirement, paid time off, etc.).
