Role Overview

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Welding Engineer to join an on-site production team in Mount Vernon, IN. This role supports welding engineering activities across product lines: writing and maintaining welding procedures, supporting welder qualifications, selecting filler metals and equipment, troubleshooting weldability and equipment issues, and partnering with production and quality teams to meet customer and code requirements.

What You’ll Do

• Provide welding engineering support for products manufactured in Mount Vernon, IN.
• Assist welders and welding supervisors during critical welding operations and process set-ups.
• Review customer contract requirements and develop welding procedures that meet code and specification requirements.
• Specify, procure, and release appropriate weld filler metals and consumables.
• Help determine welding equipment needs; participate in equipment design, selection, and purchasing.
• Prepare and review welding/fabrication plans (bead placement sketches, setup sheets, welding instructions).
• Write and maintain procedures for welder qualifications per applicable codes and customer requirements.
• Perform troubleshooting of welding operations, including weldability issues and welding equipment failures.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase quality and reduce man-hours in welding operations.
• Ensure welding processes meet customer specifications and accepted industry best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering required. Degrees in Metallurgical/Materials Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline will be considered if accompanied by extensive welding engineering experience.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, operations, and materials management teams.
• U.S. citizenship is required and applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance (or meet applicable federal eligibility requirements).
• Ability to work on-site in Mount Vernon, Indiana.

Preferred Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree preferred.
• Internship or experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, fabrication shop, or welding lab.
• Familiarity with welder qualification codes, welding procedure development, and common welding processes (GMAW, SMAW, GTAW, SAW, etc.).
• Exposure to weld metallurgy, filler metal selection, and welding equipment specification.
