Position overview
Confidential Client is hiring a Water/Wastewater Engineer in Training (EIT) for work based in Grand Junction, CO. This early-career civil/environmental engineering role supports the design, construction observation, and delivery of drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This is a full-time contractor opportunity with a competitive salary range and comprehensive benefits.
What You’ll Do
You will join project teams to support planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater systems. Typical responsibilities include:
- Assist project managers and engineers on drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects (treatment facilities, distribution and collection systems, pump stations).
- Prepare design documents, plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
- Perform construction observation and administration on water-related projects.
- Prepare technical reports, memos, and client presentations.
- Support field crews and professional surveyors as needed for data gathering and construction staking.
- Learn from licensed engineers and participate in project meetings and client interactions.
Qualifications
Basic requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification, or ability to obtain.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel to project sites as required.
- Ability to satisfy pre-employment checks (background, drug screen, motor vehicle records) in compliance with applicable laws.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering or related field.
- Prior intern or engineering experience on water, wastewater, or rural water projects.
- Experience with AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
Compensation & Total Rewards
- Anticipated base salary: $63,000–$77,000 per year (good-faith estimate; final offer based on experience, licensure, location, and internal equity).

Physical & Work Environment
- Ability to walk up to 3 miles on uneven terrain; stand or sit for extended periods.
- Occasional climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
- Occasionally lift/carry up to 20 lbs (rarely up to 50 lbs).
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hard hat, protective footwear, or flame-resistant clothing may be required.
- May require occasional evenings, weekends, and travel with overnight stays depending on project needs.
