Role overview

Confidential Client is seeking a Voice Data Communications Engineer (SME) to provide technical direction and engineering support across voice, wireless, video, and data communications domains. This role supports planning, design, installation, testing, and maintenance of large communications networks. The position requires a Top-Secret clearance and the ability to work on-site at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, HI.

Responsibilities

This role will support engineering and operational activities across communication systems and will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions.

• Assist with planning, designing, and developing large-scale voice and data communications networks to meet performance, security, and scalability requirements.
• Participate in installation and deployment of voice/data communication systems, ensuring adherence to organizational and industry standards.
• Conduct testing and troubleshooting of communication network components to verify reliable functionality and optimal performance.
• Support maintenance and repair of network infrastructure to minimize downtime and ensure continuity of operations.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, network configurations, and system procedures to support operations and future upgrades.
• Coordinate with architects, planners, and facilities teams to ensure communications spaces and media pathways meet industry standards.
• Develop, operate, and maintain voice, wireless, video, and data communications systems.
• Provide complex engineering analysis and technical recommendations within the communications function.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications and required credentials:

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
• Significant applied experience in voice/data communications engineering is preferred; candidates with relevant certifications and demonstrated technical aptitude will be considered.
• One of the following certifications is required:
  • BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), or
  • Cisco Certified Design Expert (CCDE).
• Top-Secret clearance is required prior to employment.
• Must be able to pass a background check. Additional project- or client-specific checks may be required during employment.

• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment; adaptable to changing priorities.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
• Proficient with MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).

Preferred qualifications

• Foundational understanding of voice and data communication technologies, protocols, and standards (e.g., VoIP, TCP/IP, SIP).
• Experience with network analysis, diagnostic utilities, and telecom/hardware troubleshooting tools.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, and resolve network issues efficiently.
• Interest in developing technical skills in large communications network environments.
• Prior experience working on DoD or government-contracted communications programs is a plus.
