Overview

The Voice Data Communications Engineer, Junior will provide technical direction, engineering support, and hands-on execution across voice and data communications domains — including planning, design, installation, testing, and maintenance of large communications networks. This is an entry-level/junior engineering role that supports professional growth in a technical, team-oriented environment. The position requires Top-Secret clearance eligibility and the ability to pass required background checks.

What You’ll Do

• Assist in planning, designing, and developing large-scale voice and data communications networks to meet performance, security, and scalability requirements.
• Participate in installation, deployment, and verification of voice/data communication systems per organizational and industry standards.
• Conduct testing and troubleshooting of network components to ensure reliable operation and optimal performance.
• Support maintenance and repair of network infrastructure; diagnose and remediate outages or performance issues.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, network configurations, and standard operating procedures.
• Coordinate with cross-functional technical teams to implement integrated communication solutions.
• Apply engineering best practices and comply with applicable industry standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred; equivalent practical experience considered.
• 0–2 years relevant voice/data communications experience preferred; candidates with required certifications and strong technical aptitude may be considered with less experience.
• Required certifications (one of the following is mandatory):
  • BICSI Installer 1
  • Avaya Certified
  • Nortel Certified
• Top-Secret clearance required (or ability to obtain/maintain).
• Ability to pass background checks; additional checks may be required during employment.

• Foundational understanding of voice and data technologies, protocols, and standards (e.g., VoIP, TCP/IP, SIP).
• Familiarity with network and telecommunication tools and diagnostic utilities (hardware and software).
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve network issues efficiently.
• Interest in developing capabilities in large communications network environments.
• Strong collaboration skills across technical teams.

Working Conditions
