Summary

Confidential Client is hiring a Voice Data Communications Engineer (Journeyman) to support planning, design, installation, testing, and maintenance of large voice and data communications networks. This entry-level to early-career role offers hands-on experience, professional growth, and a collaborative environment. Top-Secret clearance is required.

Estimated pay: $83,787 per year (estimated).

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, designing, and developing large-scale voice and data communications networks focused on performance, security, and scalability.
• Participate in installation and deployment of voice/data communication systems and structured media.
• Perform testing, troubleshooting, and validation of network components to ensure reliable operation.
• Support maintenance, repair, and upgrades of network infrastructure.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, network configurations, and standard operating procedures.
• Coordinate with architects, planners, and cross-functional technical teams to ensure communications pathways and spaces meet industry standards.
• Apply engineering best practices and compliance standards to deliver quality solutions.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred; equivalent practical experience considered.
• At least 3 years of relevant voice/data communications experience preferred; less experience considered for candidates with required certifications and strong technical aptitude.
• Mandatory certification: one of the following
  • BICSI Installer 2, or
  • Copper or BICSI Installer 2 - Fiber
• Top-Secret clearance is required and must be maintainable for the role.
• Ability to pass background checks as required.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Able to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Self-motivated; works independently and collaboratively on multi-functional teams.
• Experience with MS Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Able to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

• Foundational knowledge of voice and data technologies and protocols (VoIP, TCP/IP, SIP).
• Experience analyzing and resolving network issues efficiently.
• Familiarity with network and telecommunication diagnostic tools (hardware and software).
• Interest in advancing skills in large communications network environments.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

• Primarily professional office environment with onsite work required.
• May involve standing, bending, working in confined technical spaces, and lifting equipment up to 50 pounds.
• May require flexible schedule, travel, or work outside normal business hours as project needs dictate.
• Must be able to use a computer for extended periods.
