Overview
Confidential Client is hiring a Veterans Affairs Field Services Representative I to serve veterans and their families in the Oklahoma City, OK area. In this role you will assist veterans with claims, benefits coordination, appeals preparation, and act as a representative (Power of Attorney) before VA decision review officers and administrative hearing officers. This position focuses on casework, outreach, and advocacy to ensure eligible veterans receive entitled benefits.
What You’ll Do
- Interview veterans and their dependents to assess eligibility for state and federal benefits (medical treatment, disability compensation, pension, education, debt management, etc.)
- Manage case files from intake through resolution: research records, prepare forms, file claims, and track outcomes
- Review VA rating board decisions, determine appeal potential, and prepare written briefs outlining grounds for appeal
- Represent claimants at informal and formal hearings before VA decision review officers and administrative judges; present oral arguments and obtain sworn testimony as needed
- Prepare financial statements and analyses that correlate Social Security, military retirement, and other income with VA pension/compensation eligibility
- Assist clients with debt management related to VA overpayments and prepare documentation for waivers, compromises, or repayment plans
- Develop and deliver training and certification programs for entry-level representatives and veterans service organizations
- Plan and coordinate outreach and public information programs to increase awareness of veterans’ benefits and services
- Perform other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position and agency operations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (one year of relevant military or veterans’ program experience may substitute for one year of the required education)
- Entry-level experience in benefits counseling, claims processing, or case management preferred
- Experience or coursework demonstrating ability to draft legal/appeal briefs, analyze medical/service records, or represent clients in administrative hearings is a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of federal and state statutes and regulations pertaining to veterans benefits (including Title 38 CFR)
- Familiarity with Social Security, workers’ compensation, and other programs that affect veterans’ benefits
- Ability to research laws, regulations, policies, and precedent decisions relevant to appellant cases
- Effective interviewing, counseling, and client-advocacy skills
- Proficiency with common office software and case-management systems
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Special Requirements
- Applicants must be veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, discharged under honorable conditions, and eligible for veterans’ placement under Civil Service rules (this role requires veteran status)
- Level I employees must obtain accreditation by a veterans’ service organization certified by the USDVA within six months of employment
- Employees at higher levels must possess USDVA TRIP certification and accreditation by a USDVA-certified veterans’ service organization
- Must be willing and able to meet job-related travel requirements and to relocate within an assigned territory if required
- Some positions may be designated safety-sensitive under applicable state law
