About the Role
Confidential Client is seeking a hands-on UX/UI Designer & Web Developer to elevate the design, usability, and conversion performance of its ecommerce site. This is a hybrid design-and-build position: you will create modern, mobile-first UX, design landing pages and funnels, and implement pixel-perfect front-end code (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) on a Shopify storefront while partnering closely with ecommerce, growth engineering, and senior web development teammates. You’ll use modern design tools and AI-assisted development workflows to prototype quickly, ship tests, and turn winning experiments into long-term improvements.
What You’ll Do
- Design, reframe, and upgrade landing pages, funnels, and on-site experiences to improve conversion rate and clarity.
- Translate design frameworks into clean front-end code and deploy updates on a Shopify storefront.
- Deliver responsive, pixel-perfect UX across all screen sizes (mobile-first).
- Own UX/UI quality: visual consistency, hierarchy, responsiveness, and polish across pages.
- Prototype quickly and iterate with a bias toward shipping and measuring results.
- Run, analyze, and act on A/B tests and CRO experiments in partnership with growth and analytics teams.
- Maintain and extend the design system and reusable component patterns.
- Sanity-check and QA for edge cases: broken states, alignment issues, and performance regressions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally (ecommerce, marketing, brand, retail) to keep the site aligned with campaigns and product launches.
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years designing and building UX flows for websites, preferably in ecommerce or conversion-focused environments.
- Strong portfolio showing visual and interaction design (typography, layout, hierarchy, modern aesthetic).
- Hands-on front-end skills: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — comfortable implementing and debugging your own designs.
- Mastery of responsive, mobile-first design and attention to pixel-level detail across breakpoints.
- Experience using design tools like Figma (or equivalent) and moving designs to production quickly.
- Familiarity with how the DOM, rendering, and page performance affect UX and conversion.
- Experience using AI development tools to accelerate design-to-code workflows.
- Curiosity about user behavior and conversion metrics; able to partner on test strategy and interpret results.
- Strong communication skills; able to explain design tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Background
- Experience owning or contributing to a CRO / A/B testing program and implementing learnings.
- Familiarity with Shopify (themes, Liquid) or similar ecommerce platforms is a strong plus.
- Comfort working alongside analytics and data to define tests and measure impact.
- Knowledge of accessibility best practices, page-speed optimization, and mobile-first performance techniques.
Why This Role
This is a high-visibility, high-autonomy position that directly impacts customer experience and revenue. You’ll own the interface where design meets conversion and have the freedom to build, test, and ship ideas that move the business.
Work Location & Schedule
This role is full-time and primarily based in Durham, NC with hybrid in-person collaboration expected. Candidates must be able to work on-site as required by the team’s collaboration rhythm.
