What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring a UI/UX Software Engineer to design and build user-facing interfaces for robotic systems and other embedded applications. You'll work closely with robotics engineers, hardware teams, sponsors, and end users to create intuitive, responsive UIs that integrate with real-time system data and backend services.

  • Co-design human-machine interfaces with cross-functional teams and field operators.
  • Build native, hardware-accelerated frontends using Qt/QML and bind them to C++ or Python backends.
  • Prototype interaction flows and run usability testing with real users and operators.
  • Integrate telemetry, system-state engines, and databases while keeping interfaces fast and responsive.
  • Participate in peer code and design reviews, integration testing, documentation, and version control workflows.
  • Adapt and integrate open-source libraries, proprietary tools, and APIs to extend UI capabilities.
  • Validate and refine interfaces through both simulated and physical hardware field testing.
  • Support projects across industrial, agricultural, autonomy, safety, and other application domains (some sponsored by defense/military organizations).

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Computer Science, HCI, Design, or equivalent practical experience; 1–3+ years of combined academic or professional software development experience.
  • Hands-on experience building modern, responsive UIs with QML and/or Qt.
  • Experience connecting QML frontends to backends (C++ signals/slots, PySide6/PyQt, or async data handlers).
  • Strong user-centered design skills: translating feedback, wireframes, and workflows into clear visual layouts.
  • Solid communication and collaboration skills for multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with Git, writing maintainable code, and participating in code/design reviews.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn how physical hardware works and to bridge operator needs with machine behavior.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Nice-to-Haves / Preferred Experience

  • Designing for touch pendants, handheld controllers, or embedded/cyber-physical interfaces.
  • Experience with robotics tools or frameworks (ROS / ROS 2, Gazebo, 3D telemetry visualization).
  • Conducting usability interviews or observing end-users operating hardware in the field.
  • Exposure to Python, backend development, or database integration.
  • Familiarity with design tools (Figma, Adobe XD, Qt Design Studio, Photoshop).
  • Experience with Android development or embedded Linux deployment.
