UI/UX designer-Hybrid-Manhattan,NY-Locals Only
The UI/UX Designer will join a multidisciplinary team to enhance rider experiences across public transit systems by developing and maintaining design systems and style guides. This role involves close collaboration with user research, product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to align user needs with business goals, lead UX efforts for complex digital products, and champion accessibility and user-centered design practices in an agile environment.

What You’ll Do
- Lead UX design for complex digital products, with a focus on mobile applications and passenger-facing signage.
- Develop and maintain design systems, style guides, and component libraries to ensure consistent digital and physical experiences.
- Collaborate closely with User Research (UXR) to incorporate rider insights and maintain a continuous user feedback loop.
- Partner with product managers, engineers, creative teams, and stakeholders to align user needs with business goals.
- Present design concepts, prototypes, and research findings to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Establish, document, and evangelize UX processes, patterns, and best practices across teams.
- Plan and run usability testing, accessibility audits, and quality-control checks on delivered experiences.
- Work effectively in agile development environments, balancing attention to detail with delivery timelines.
- Champion user-centered design practices and ensure accessibility standards are met.
Minimum Qualifications
- Entry-level UX / UI background (as indicated in the original posting).
- Portfolio demonstrating user-centered design work across mobile and web (wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, prototypes).
- Proficiency with modern UX and visual design tools (for example: Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD).
- Strong communication skills — able to present design rationale and research findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience working within agile teams or a demonstrated ability to collaborate in fast-paced product environments.
- Commitment to accessibility (WCAG) and inclusive design principles.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred (Nice to Have)
- Experience in the transportation industry or related public-sector projects.
- Direct experience creating and maintaining design systems at scale.
- Prior exposure to research-driven design and longitudinal user feedback programs.
