Temp/Travel Medical Technologist (MLS / MLT)
This contract position is for a certified Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist or Technician to perform specimen collection, testing, and analysis in a hospital laboratory setting. The role requires independent operation of laboratory instruments, quality control, troubleshooting, and effective communication with clinical teams to ensure accurate and timely patient results. The position offers flexible day and evening shifts with weekend options and emphasizes strong technical skills and customer service.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform accurate and appropriate testing of patient specimens following established laboratory procedures and protocols.
- Perform routine phlebotomy with proper patient identification and safety procedures.
- Collect, process, and prepare specimens for routine and specialized testing.
- Coordinate send-out testing (reference labs, flow cytometry, cytology, bone marrow, chromosome analysis, pathology).
- Investigate and document unacceptable specimens and other pre-analytical issues.
- Review and verify laboratory results for accuracy prior to reporting.
- Report STAT, abnormal, and critical results per laboratory policy.
- Perform and evaluate quality control procedures; troubleshoot and document out-of-range QC results and corrective actions.
- Perform routine analyzer maintenance and calibrations as scheduled.
- Manage laboratory reagents, QC materials, and inventory.
- Organize daily workload to support efficient testing and turnaround times.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace and follow department safety standards.
- Communicate effectively with patients, laboratory colleagues, clinical staff, and other departments.
- Work independently while escalating issues or seeking guidance when appropriate.
Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Science, or a related scientific field.
- Current certification/registration through ASCP or AMT as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist (MLS/MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).
- Minimum of one year of relevant clinical laboratory experience.
- Strong technical skills operating laboratory instrumentation and performing routine maintenance.
- Proficient in quality control, troubleshooting, and documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to prioritize, work independently, and function in a fast-paced hospital laboratory environment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay rate: $25.00 per hour
- Per diem: $1,200 per week
- 2nd shift (day/evening flexibility negotiable)
