Role overview

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Travel Claims / Tax Auditor (Tax Auditor I) in Little Rock, AR. This role focuses on routine audits, daily management of Motor Fuel Tax accounts, refund claim reviews, reconciliations, and monthly close-out reporting. The position requires strong attention to detail, basic auditing skills, and the ability to communicate professionally with taxpayers and internal partners.


What you’ll do

  • Review and manage Motor Fuel Tax accounts: establish new accounts, monitor non-filers and account changes, and process amended returns.
  • Review Motor Fuel Tax and Dyed Diesel refund claims monthly to verify accuracy and compliance prior to approval.
  • Perform routine audits of tax returns, financial statements, and supporting documentation to confirm correct tax reporting.
  • Use auditing software and tools to analyze financial data and identify discrepancies, errors, or potential fraud.
  • Prepare clear audit workpapers and written reports detailing findings, adjustments, and recommendations.
  • Reconcile daily Motor Fuel Tax revenue deposits and prepare monthly close-out reports containing statistical and revenue data for DFA management and ARDOT.
  • Communicate with taxpayers and other stakeholders via written correspondence, phone, and in-person meetings as needed.
  • Maintain accurate audit records and ensure documentation complies with department policies and legal requirements.
  • Collaborate with auditors, supervisors, and managers to share knowledge and improve audit practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, business, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of twelve (12) semester hours in accounting (in accordance with ACA 26-17-203).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to review and interpret complex financial data.
  • High attention to detail and ability to document findings clearly.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; familiarity with auditing software or data analysis tools is a plus.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills for interacting with taxpayers and internal teams.
  • Relevant coursework or internship experience in accounting, auditing, or tax is preferred but not required for entry-level.

Preferred / useful skills

  • Knowledge of state tax rules and tax administration processes.
  • Experience with account reconciliation and monthly close-out procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet reporting deadlines.
  • Team-oriented mindset and willingness to learn procedures and systems.

Compensation & location

  • Location: Little Rock, AR (on-site)
  • Employment type: Full-time
  • Estimated pay: $50,659 per year (estimated)

Note: Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management based on demonstrated skills, performance, and organizational need.
