Transportation Planner
The Transportation Planner at Confidential Client is responsible for scheduling and coordinating the transportation of inbound and intra-facility materials within the supply chain, utilizing transportation management systems to optimize shipments. This role supports manufacturing, distribution, and procurement operations by managing truck, rail, and ocean delivery networks, improving efficiency, reducing costs and environmental impact, and ensuring compliance with transportation regulations.

What You’ll Do
The Transportation Planner will schedule, coordinate, and execute inbound and intra-facility transportation across the supply chain. You’ll work with internal operations, procurement, and external carriers to manage truck, rail, and ocean movements—supporting efficient, compliant, and cost-effective delivery networks.
- Analyze orders and plan shipments using a Transportation Management System (TMS)
- Execute daily shipments and resolve shipment exceptions
- Coordinate with 3rd-party carriers and support private fleet utilization
- Evaluate legality and feasibility of current and proposed transit infrastructure
- Support bids for transportation projects and recommend acceptance, rejection, or modifications
- Recommend and implement plan changes to improve efficiency, reduce cost and environmental impact
- Support logistic network modeling and provide recommendations based on analysis
- Draft reports outlining findings and recommended actions as needed
- Indirectly support driver and equipment utilization
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) — preferred platforms include Oracle OTM, JDA/Blue Yonder, Manhattan, MercuryGate, etc.
- Experience with tactical supply chain planning: carrier capacity planning, transportation planning, and network planning
- Experience in transportation management, carrier management, fleet management, and driver management
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics Management, OR at least five (5) years of related experience
- Thorough understanding of FMCSA compliance requirements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Customer-first mindset and ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams
- Proficient in Microsoft Office or comparable productivity tools
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Physical Demands
- Regular use of a computer and standard office equipment (telephone, printer, copier, etc.)
- Ability to communicate clearly via phone, email, and in-person
- Work is primarily performed in an indoor, temperature-controlled office environment
- Typical work involves sitting and standing

Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated salary: $59,926 per year (estimated)
