What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is launching an 18-month Transportation Engineering Associate (TEA) program to develop recent engineering graduates into entry-level transportation professionals. In this rotational, cohort-based program you will:
- Gain hands-on exposure across multiple transportation disciplines (Roadway, Structures, Hydraulics, Geotechnical, Utilities, Photogrammetry, Maintenance, Construction and Environmental Planning)
- Support projects across modes including highways, rail, ferry, aviation, bicycle & pedestrian, and public transportation
- Assist with design, planning, construction oversight, data collection/analysis, and field observations
- Prepare technical summaries, reports, and presentations for internal teams and stakeholders
- Work on team-based assignments while developing communication and project coordination skills
- Participate in structured training, mentorship, and performance evaluations
Who We’re Looking For
This program is designed for recent graduates and early-career engineers with strong academic performance and a commitment to public service.
Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering discipline from an accredited institution (Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, Chemical, Surveying, Electrical, Geomatics, Biological & Agricultural, Biosystems, Environmental, or closely related engineering degree)
- No more than two years of post-graduation engineering experience
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Clear written and oral communication abilities and leadership potential
- Interest in transportation planning, design, construction, or maintenance
- Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle
- Willingness to relocate if selected for a placement
Note: Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered per the hiring agency’s equivalency guidelines.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary grade: NC16
- Salary range: $55,823 – $97,689 per year
- Typical starting salary for program associates: $74,263 (with eligibility for salary adjustments)
- Potential transfer into an Engineer I position at approximately $81,526 upon program completion
- Full state benefits package (health, retirement, leave, and professional development)
Selection & Timeline
- Rolling selection for multiple candidates from this posting.
- Program cohorts begin in January and June (examples: January 2027 / June 2027).
- Typical cycle: application window (Sept–Nov), interviews (Oct–Nov), offers communicated throughout the process, start dates as noted above.
