What You’ll Do

This entry-level Transmission Line Engineer position is an opportunity to apply fundamentals of transmission line engineering across planning, design, and specification development. You will work on overhead and underground transmission and distribution projects and collaborate with technical teams to produce safe, constructible designs.

  • Design transmission lines from 69 kV up to 765 kV.
  • Prepare construction sketches for overhead and underground distribution (4 kV–34 kV).
  • Perform structural analysis and design of pole, lattice, framed, and guyed structures.
  • Complete foundation design for typical structures.
  • Perform conductor selection, shielding, grounding and induction studies.
  • Model transmission lines in PLS‑CADD; calculate conductor sags and right‑of‑way needs; develop plan and profile drawings.
  • Develop cost estimates, schedules, and procurement specifications for line and distribution materials and construction.
  • Review vendor submittals and coordinate technical clarifications.
  • Use modern tools and automation (including scripting or model-driven approaches) to improve workflows and reduce rework.
  • Communicate technical work clearly in reports, drawings, and meetings.

What We’re Looking For

We seek early-career engineers with relevant academic preparation and hands-on exposure. Replace employer names with "Confidential Client" in all candidate-facing communications.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering preferred; other engineering degrees considered if coursework includes civil, geotechnical, strength of materials, statics, and electrical power.
  • Related internship, co‑op, or early engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with PLS‑CADD, PLS‑POLE, AutoCAD, PoleForeman, and ArcGIS preferred.
  • Strong understanding of basic transmission line engineering, design techniques, and production of technical plans and drawings.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and good written/verbal communication skills.
  • Valued (not required): ABET‑accredited degree, FE exam completion (EIT), familiarity with PLS‑TOWER, SAG10, LPILE, MFAD, CDEGS, MicroStation, GIS tools, and experience in utility inspections or construction.
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318 is a plus.
  • Willingness to use automation and AI responsibly to solve engineering problems; programming/scripting (Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) is a plus.

Work Arrangement & Location

  • Hybrid schedule: expected three days onsite per week with up to two days remote (subject to team needs).
  • Location: Cary, NC (local candidates preferred; relocation assistance may be available depending on candidate location).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $62,998 - $90,586 per year (range disclosed in source posting to comply with pay‑transparency requirements).
