Role overview
This entry-level Transmission Engineer role supports transmission line design and delivery for high-voltage projects. You will apply fundamentals of transmission line engineering (conductors, hardware, insulation, structures, foundations and electrical principles) to design, analyze, and document overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems.
What you’ll do
- Design transmission lines in the 69 kV to 765 kV range and prepare plan/profile drawings.
- Prepare construction sketches for overhead and underground network services (4 kV through 34 kV).
- Perform structural analysis and design of pole, lattice, framed, and guyed structures.
- Complete foundation designs for transmission structures.
- Perform conductor selection studies, shielding, grounding, and induction studies.
- Model transmission lines in PLS‑CADD, determine right-of-way requirements, and calculate conductor sags.
- Develop cost estimates, schedules, and procurement specifications for line/distribution materials and construction.
- Review vendor submittals and support construction/inspection activities as needed.
- Communicate technical results clearly in reports, drawings, and specifications; collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering preferred. Candidates with other degrees will be considered if they have coursework in civil, geotechnical, strength of materials, statics, and electrical power.
- Related engineering experience, internship, or co‑op experience.
- Proficiency with PLS‑CADD, PLS‑POLE, AutoCAD, PoleForeman, and ArcGIS.
- Working knowledge of transmission line engineering and physical distribution design methods.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred / valued skills
- BS or MS from an ABET‑accredited engineering program.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam; EIT designation.
- Familiarity with PLS‑TOWER, SAG10, LPILE, MFAD, CDEGS, MicroStation, or GIS software.
- Experience preparing engineering calculations, technical documentation, or supporting construction inspections.
- Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.
- Programming or scripting (Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate design checks or reporting is a plus.
Work arrangement & location
This role offers a hybrid schedule: typically three days per week in the office and two days remote. Relocation assistance may be available depending on candidate location. This position is based in the Trenton, NJ area.
Compensation & benefits
- Compensation range (base salary): $62,998 - $90,586 per year.
- The total compensation package may include a discretionary annual bonus, competitive healthcare plans, retirement savings (401k), tuition assistance, professional licensure bonuses, paid time off, parental leave, and other benefits.
