Role Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Civil Design Engineer to support electric transmission line projects in Oakland, CA (hybrid). You will join the Civil Engineering & Design team that delivers civil designs, foundation and structure analysis, and civil drawings for transmission poles and towers. This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and works under supervision with opportunities for independent decision-making.
What You’ll Do
- Actively promote safe practices in line with corporate safety policies.
- Prepare designs, calculations, drawings, layouts and studies from field inspections, sketches, diagrams, specifications, and instructions.
- Participate in field reviews and coordinate project objectives with engineering, construction, operations, and maintenance stakeholders.
- Review and check drawings and designs (peer review).
- Produce construction drawings using MicroStation and PLS‑CADD; perform structural analysis and design using tools such as SAP2000, PLS Tower, PLS POLE, and L‑PILE.
- Foster teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement in design processes.
- Travel as required (approximately 10%).
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering — or graduating with a BS in Civil/Structural Engineering by December 2026; OR equivalent combination of education and experience (six years total), OR four years of combined education/experience including two years as a Design Drafter / Senior Design Drafter at Confidential Client.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class C California Driver’s License by Day 1 of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in structural engineering for transmission structures.
- MS degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- EIT or PE license.
- Experience with PLS‑TOWER and PLS‑CADD.

Compensation & Location
- Location: Oakland, CA (hybrid; assigned work location will be within Confidential Client’s service territory).
- Pay: Under the applicable collective bargaining agreement, the hourly range for this position is $46.94 to $78.14/hour. Actual pay will be based on skills, experience, qualifications, geographic location, and collective bargaining terms.
