What You’ll Do
This entry-level Traffic Engineer will join the Traffic Engineering Group in the Richmond, VA area and support both traffic analysis and traffic design teams. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Perform operational traffic analyses and traffic safety/operations studies for intersections, corridors, and multimodal projects.
- Develop technical recommendations and creative solutions based on data and field observations.
- Prepare contract documents for traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, work zone traffic control, roadway/parking lot lighting, and ITS devices.
- Build and apply traffic simulation and modeling (Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, VISUM) to evaluate alternatives and quantify performance.
- Produce technical reports, memos, and client presentations that clearly describe methods, findings, and recommendations.
- Coordinate with design teams, project managers, and clients; possible work at client sites as project needs require.
- Support project delivery from concept through construction documentation and help maintain quality control standards.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will bring strong fundamentals in civil/transportation engineering, good communication, and proficiency with industry tools:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- 0–4 years of relevant experience or internships focused on transportation/traffic engineering.
- Experience or course work with Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, VISUM, or similar modeling tools is a plus.
- Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare clear reports and present findings.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively with team members.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred.
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship. Our client will not sponsor employment-based visas for this position.
