What You’ll Do

This entry-level Traffic Engineer will join the Traffic Engineering Group in the Richmond, VA area and support both traffic analysis and traffic design teams. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Perform operational traffic analyses and traffic safety/operations studies for intersections, corridors, and multimodal projects.
  • Develop technical recommendations and creative solutions based on data and field observations.
  • Prepare contract documents for traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, work zone traffic control, roadway/parking lot lighting, and ITS devices.
  • Build and apply traffic simulation and modeling (Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, VISUM) to evaluate alternatives and quantify performance.
  • Produce technical reports, memos, and client presentations that clearly describe methods, findings, and recommendations.
  • Coordinate with design teams, project managers, and clients; possible work at client sites as project needs require.
  • Support project delivery from concept through construction documentation and help maintain quality control standards.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring strong fundamentals in civil/transportation engineering, good communication, and proficiency with industry tools:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 0–4 years of relevant experience or internships focused on transportation/traffic engineering.
  • Experience or course work with Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, VISUM, or similar modeling tools is a plus.
  • Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare clear reports and present findings.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively with team members.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship. Our client will not sponsor employment-based visas for this position.
