About the Role

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Traffic Engineer to join a Traffic Engineering team based in Blacksburg, VA. This role is ideal for an early-career civil engineer who wants hands-on experience in traffic operations, signal and roadway design, and traffic modeling across mid‑Atlantic and national projects. Position may include client-site work and regional travel.


What You’ll Do

  • Support traffic signal, signing, and pavement marking design and preparation of contract documents
  • Assist with traffic engineering operational analyses and safety/operations studies
  • Build and apply traffic models using Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, and VISUM
  • Contribute to ITS and work-zone traffic control design and coordination
  • Prepare technical reports, memos, and client presentations
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on intersections, corridors, interchanges, parking studies, and multimodal plans
  • Coordinate with clients and project stakeholders; occasionally work at client sites

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 0–4 years of relevant experience; internships or co-op experience in transportation/traffic engineering preferred
  • Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present technical information clearly
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
  • Positive, collaborative attitude and commitment to teamwork
  • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification preferred

Compensation range (good-faith estimate): $70,000 – $125,000 per year. An estimated midpoint for this role is approximately $104,060 per year. Actual offer will vary based on experience, location, and qualifications.
