Traffic Engineer - Entry Level

What You’ll Do
You will join the Traffic Engineering team supporting planning, analysis, and design projects across the mid‑Atlantic and national markets. Typical responsibilities include:
- Perform traffic operations and safety analyses and prepare clear technical reports and presentations
- Support design of traffic control measures: traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, roadway and parking lighting, and work zone traffic control
- Prepare contract documents (plans, specifications, quantity takeoffs) for traffic signal, signing/marking, ITS, and MOT work
- Develop and apply microsimulation and network models (Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, VISUM) to evaluate alternatives
- Use MicroStation and/or AutoCAD to produce and QA plan sheets and details
- Coordinate with multi‑disciplinary teams, clients, and permitting agencies; present findings to stakeholders
- Assist with field data collection and on‑site client work as required
What We’re Looking For
Minimum qualifications for consideration:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program
- 0–4 years of relevant experience in transportation/traffic engineering (internships count)
- Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to manage multiple assignments
- Positive, team‑oriented attitude and willingness to learn
- Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification preferred
- Authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
Preferred / Technical Skills
- Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, and/or VISUM modeling experience
- Traffic signal timing and ITS device experience
- Work zone traffic control design and maintenance of traffic (MOT) practices
- Traffic safety analysis (e.g., crash analysis, countermeasure development)
- Experience preparing contract plans and specifications
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated annual pay range: $70,000 – $125,000 (good‑faith estimate). Market data on the posting shows an estimated annual salary near $123,000.
