Role overview

Confidential Client is recruiting entry-level engineers (MS or PhD) for a 2027 Engineering Rotation within its Turbomachinery Technology & New Product Introduction (NPI) organization. This rotational program (2–3 rotations of ~16–20 weeks each) accelerates technical development across disciplines such as gas turbine aerodynamics, heat transfer, performance, combustion, additive manufacturing (AM), and engineering data science. Participants gain hands-on experience, cross-functional exposure, and preparation for a long-term engineering career at the Confidential Client.

What you’ll do

  • Complete 2–3, 16–20 week rotations across turbomachinery functions (aerodynamics, performance, heat transfer, combustion, AM, data science).
  • Use 1D/2D/3D design tools and CFD to design and analyze turbine and compressor flowpath components (airfoils, ducts, diffusers, collectors).
  • Support thermodynamic cycle and performance studies; develop and calibrate performance predictions and transient cycle models.
  • Analyze engine test data, support production tests, and provide product support and troubleshooting.
  • Design cooling circuits and thermal models for cooled blades, nozzles, disks, diaphragms, and related components.
  • Design and optimize combustion hardware (injectors, liners) and collaborate on combustion system integration.
  • Advance AM technology: materials characterization, process maturation, distortion prediction, and DfAM guidance.
  • Develop and validate machine learning and data-driven models to support design decisions; integrate tools into engineering workflows and build dashboards for cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to ensure designs meet manufacturability, cost, durability and performance requirements.

Minimum qualifications

  • In process of obtaining or have obtained a Master’s or PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials, Chemistry, or a related engineering discipline (or a Mechanical/Aerospace BS with a Data Science MS/PhD).
  • Overall GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
  • Applied knowledge of engineering fundamentals and demonstrated problem-solving experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be willing and able to relocate to San Diego, CA and work on-site full time (five days per week).

Preferred qualifications

  • Coursework or internship experience in turbomachinery concepts.
  • Experience with CFD, transient cycle modeling, or performance analysis.
  • Familiarity with additive manufacturing materials/processes and materials characterization.
  • Experience with machine learning, data analytics, or engineering software development.
  • Prior co-op or internship experience and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Compensation & benefits

  • Base salary range: $92,500 to $118,000 per year. Actual salary will be based on experience and other lawful factors.
