What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring a Telecommunications Aerial Designer to support aerial OSP and joint‑use fiber projects. This role focuses on producing construction-ready design packages that keep builds compliant, constructible, and on schedule.

  • Produce aerial fiber design and pole-loading deliverables for joint-use routes, applying the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) for clearances, loading districts, and grade-of-construction requirements
  • Perform make-ready engineering: identify clearance violations, required pole replacements, riser/down-guy needs, and required rearrangements; translate field conditions into actionable construction notes
  • Develop and review pole attachment applications and supporting calculations per utility and joint‑use owner standards
  • Run sag and tension analyses; verify mid-span and ground clearances against NESC Rule 232/235 and applicable loading cases using sag tables and pole‑loading tools
  • Interpret field survey and as‑built data (pole heights, existing attachments, messenger/strand, span lengths); incorporate terrain/elevation into clearance analysis
  • Prepare CAD/GIS construction drawings, route prints, pole-by-pole details, and make-ready summaries
  • Coordinate with utility joint‑use departments, permitting agencies, survey crews, and construction/contractor partners to resolve design conflicts
  • Support quality control of design deliverables and maintain documentation suitable for utility and right‑of‑way review
  • Travel occasionally for field data collection as needed

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the NESC, especially clearance and loading rules for communications attachments
  • Familiarity with aerial OSP and FTTH design concepts: joint use, make-ready, pole loading, messenger/strand, guying, and down‑guy/anchor placement
  • Experience reading and producing OSP construction prints, route prints, and pole detail sheets
  • Proficiency in CAD and/or GIS tools (AutoCAD, ArcGIS, or equivalent OSP design platforms); experience with pole‑loading software (O‑Calc, SPIDAcalc, or similar) is a strong plus
  • Understanding of utility pole attachment standards and joint‑use application/permitting processes
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to translate survey/field data into compliant designs
  • Effective communicator capable of coordinating with utilities, permitting agencies, and construction crews
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field, relevant certification, or equivalent OSP/joint‑use design experience
  • Valid driver’s license; willingness to travel for field work when required
  • Entry‑level candidates with a solid technical foundation and aptitude are encouraged to apply

Compensation

  • Estimated: $69,465 per year (estimated). This reflects the organization’s expectations for the role; actual offer may vary based on experience and qualifications.

What We Offer

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off (prorated at start), paid holidays, and paid volunteer time
