Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Technical Writer (Remote) to join a team that supports government IT programs. This dual-focus role supports proposal development (RFP/RFI/RFQ responses) and creates technical documentation—user guides, SOPs, knowledge-base articles, and training materials. The position is fully remote within the United States and will work closely with subject-matter experts, capture and proposal teams, and delivery personnel.
What You’ll Do
- Support mission-aligned communications by translating senior-leader priorities and government direction into clear, actionable materials (briefings, strategic plans, org charts).
- Produce compliant, compelling proposal content by analyzing solicitation requirements and drafting, editing, formatting, and proofreading sections (e.g., past performance, resumes).
- Use proposal best practices (storyboarding, win-theme integration) to iterate and refine content that aligns with strategy and messaging.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation: user guides, SOPs, help articles, FAQs, and quick-reference guides for non-expert audiences.
- Interview SMEs to gather technical and program information and translate it into clear, user-friendly content.
- Create or support visual aids (diagrams, process flows, charts, infographics) to enhance documentation.
- Build and maintain SharePoint sites and knowledge repositories to organize and share information across the business unit.
- Apply templates, style guides, and government formatting/quality standards (including accessibility where applicable) to deliver professional, consistent deliverables.
- Deliver assigned artifacts on schedule and collaborate in cross-functional project meetings.
Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; 1–3 years relevant experience (or commensurate experience).
- Experience producing technical documentation (user guides, SOPs, help content, training materials) for non-expert audiences.
- Experience responding to government solicitations (RFPs, RFIs, RFQs) and writing compliant proposal sections.
- Strong editing and proofreading skills; attention to consistency in style, formatting, and terminology.
- Proven ability to interview SMEs and translate complex technical concepts into clear language.
- Comfortable working with document templates, style guides, and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and time-management skills; able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Prior proposal writing experience for government contracts, including past performance and resume development.
- Familiarity with government documentation standards (e.g., Section 508, agency style guides).
- Experience with visual-authoring tools (Visio, Lucidchart, Illustrator) and creating diagrams/infographics.
- Exposure to knowledge management or documentation platforms (SharePoint, Confluence, MadCap Flare, ServiceNow KB).
- Familiarity with government program operations or the environments supported by government IT teams.
Clearance
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Suitability / Public Trust clearance is required.
Compensation
- Posted salary range: USD $60,000 – USD $70,000 per year.
- Final base pay will depend on factors including location, experience, skills, and internal equity. Total compensation may include additional elements discussed during hiring.
