The Technical Writer at Confidential Client is responsible for producing clear, compliant proposal content and technical documentation to support federal government business and internal operations. This fully remote role involves translating complex solicitation requirements and technical information into user-friendly materials, collaborating with subject matter experts and proposal teams, and maintaining high-quality documentation standards to support mission-critical government projects.

What You’ll Do
This fully remote (U.S.) Technical Writer will support a Confidential Client’s proposals and program documentation. You’ll turn technical and program-level subject matter into clear, compliant proposal content and user-facing technical documentation (user guides, SOPs, KB articles, training materials). This is an entry-level to early-career role where you’ll be coached by experienced capture, proposal, and delivery professionals while you build skills in government solicitations and mission-focused technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support proposal development: analyze solicitations (RFPs, RFIs, RFQs), draft and edit compliant proposal sections (past performance, resumes, technical approach) and apply proposal best practices such as storyboarding.
- Produce technical documentation: write and maintain user guides, SOPs, help content, FAQs, quick-reference guides, and training materials that translate complex technical concepts for non-expert audiences.
- Interview SMEs and gather technical/program information to ensure accuracy and clarity.
- Create and maintain SharePoint sites, knowledge bases, and document libraries to organize and share materials across the business unit.
- Develop visual aids (diagrams, process flows, charts, infographics) to support documentation and proposals.
- Apply templates, style guides, and government formatting standards (accessibility and agency-specific guidance) to ensure consistent, professional deliverables.
- Collaborate with capture leads, project managers, analysts, and government stakeholders; deliver artifacts on schedule.
- Maintain quality control: edit, proofread, and ensure consistency in terminology, formatting, and branding.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support mission-aligned communications and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; 1–3 years relevant experience preferred (degrees in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Journalism, or related fields are a plus).
- Experience or demonstrable ability to respond to government solicitations (RFPs, RFIs, RFQs) and produce compliant proposal content.
- Ability to create technical documentation for non-expert audiences (user guides, SOPs, help content).
- Strong interviewing skills to extract information from SMEs and transform it into clear content.
- Excellent editing, proofreading, and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working within document templates, style guides, and structured review cycles.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and able to manage competing priorities.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred
- Prior experience writing for government proposals.
- Familiarity with government documentation standards (e.g., Section 508 accessibility) and agency style guides.
- Experience with SharePoint, Confluence, MadCap Flare, or ServiceNow knowledge management platforms.
- Experience producing visual documentation (Visio, Lucidchart, Illustrator).
- Familiarity with government program operations and the environments supported by the client.
Clearance & Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain Suitability/Public Trust clearance.
- US work authorization required.
- Some interviews in the process will require a valid photo ID; virtual interviews may require the camera to be on.
- Background checks and verification of education/employment will be part of the hiring process.
Compensation & Benefits
- Posted salary range: USD $60,000 – USD $70,000 per year (range reflects expected starting compensation; final offer may vary based on location, experience, and other factors).
