Mission & Role Summary
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Technical Writer to support proposal development and technical documentation across government IT programs. This fully remote, U.S.-based role blends proposal writing (RFP/RFI/RFQ response) with user-facing technical content: SOPs, user guides, knowledge-base articles, training materials, and SharePoint-based knowledge management.
Responsibilities
- Support mission-aligned communications by translating senior-leader priorities and government direction into clear, actionable documents, briefings, and plans.
- Produce compliant, persuasive proposal sections: past performance, resumes, technical/management approaches, and other solicitation responses.
- Draft, edit, format, proofread, and deliver proposal artifacts on schedule using proposal best practices (storyboarding, win themes).
- Develop and maintain technical documentation for non-expert audiences: user guides, SOPs, FAQs, knowledge-base articles, and training materials.
- Interview subject matter experts (SMEs) and convert technical content into plain-language deliverables.
- Create and maintain SharePoint sites and knowledge management structures to organize information across the business unit.
- Produce visual support materials such as diagrams, process flows, charts, and quick-reference guides.
- Apply document templates, style guides, Section 508/accessibility and agency formatting expectations where applicable.
- Collaborate with capture, proposal, program, and delivery teams; ensure consistency in style, terminology, and branding.
- Follow security, quality, and government documentation policies; perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent experience; 1–3 years relevant experience preferred. Degrees in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Journalism, or related fields are a plus.
- Experience writing or supporting government solicitation responses (RFPs, RFIs, RFQs) or a demonstrated ability to write compliant business- or proposal-oriented content.
- Proven ability to create technical documentation (user guides, SOPs, help articles) for non-technical audiences.
- Strong interviewing, editing, and proofreading skills; attention to detail in formatting and consistency.
- Comfortable working in templates and style guides, and producing work under deadlines.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Suitability/Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Skills
- Direct experience writing for government proposals and familiarity with government documentation standards.
- Experience with SharePoint, Confluence, or other knowledge-management platforms.
- Experience creating diagrams and visual aids (Visio, Lucidchart, Illustrator).
- Exposure to MadCap Flare, ServiceNow knowledge base, or similar documentation tools.
- Familiarity with government program operations and IT environments.
Compensation & Employment Type
- Full-time; remote (U.S. based).
- Posted salary range: USD $60,000 - USD $70,000 per year.
- Where applicable, pay offers will be based on experience, location, and internal equity, and in accordance with federal, state, and local pay transparency laws.
