Role Summary

This is a fully remote, U.S.-based Technical Writer role supporting a confidential client’s government-focused programs. You will produce proposal content and technical documentation (user guides, SOPs, knowledge-base articles, and training materials). The role blends proposal writing and technical documentation—ideal for an early-career writer with 1–3 years of experience who wants to grow in government contracting and knowledge management.

What You’ll Do

  • Support mission alignment by translating senior leadership and government stakeholder priorities into clear, actionable materials (briefings, strategic plans, organizational charts).
  • Produce compliant, persuasive proposal content for RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs—drafting, editing, formatting, and proofreading assigned sections.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation: user guides, SOPs, knowledge-base articles, quick-reference guides, and training materials.
  • Interview subject matter experts (SMEs) to collect technical details and convert complex concepts into plain-language content for non-expert audiences.
  • Build and maintain SharePoint sites and other documentation repositories to organize and distribute information across the business unit.
  • Create visual aids (diagrams, process flows, charts, infographics) to clarify procedures and systems.
  • Work with proposal and delivery teams to integrate win themes, ensure data accuracy, and meet deadlines.
  • Apply document templates, style guides, and government formatting/quality standards (including accessibility considerations where relevant).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 1–3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience. Degrees in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or Journalism are a plus.
  • Experience writing or editing content for government solicitations (RFPs, RFIs, RFQs) and producing compliant proposal sections.
  • Proven ability to create technical documentation (user guides, SOPs, help content, training materials) for non-expert audiences.
  • Strong interviewing, analytical, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to consistency in style and formatting.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with SharePoint or other knowledge-management platforms is preferred.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Prior experience in government proposals and familiarity with government formatting standards (e.g., Section 508, agency style guides).
  • Experience producing visual documentation (Visio, Lucidchart, Illustrator).
  • Exposure to documentation tools (Confluence, MadCap Flare, ServiceNow knowledge base).
  • Understanding of government program operations or previous work supporting federal customers.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Suitability/Public Trust clearance.
