What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking a Technical Editor to support environmental investigation, remediation, and restoration programs for government clients. This role edits, formats, and QA/QC complex technical deliverables produced by scientific and technical staff.
- Review documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, readability, organization, and consistent use of technical terminology while preserving technical intent.
- Perform quality reviews across narrative text, tables, figures, appendices, references, acronyms, units, figure/table numbering, and supporting data.
- Identify and resolve inconsistencies, missing or conflicting information, and formatting issues prior to client submission.
- Apply editorial judgment consistent with client requirements, project style guides, templates, and document control procedures.
- Coordinate with technical staff to ensure figures and supporting materials are correctly integrated into final deliverables.
- Support electronic document production, compilation, and delivery per project specifications.
- Manage multiple documents, contributors, and review cycles to meet project schedules and submission deadlines.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, Journalism, or a related field.
- Strong command of English grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax, and professional writing conventions.
- Ability to edit complex technical material for clarity and consistency without changing technical meaning; willingness to grow these skills through structured on-the-job training.
- Working proficiency with Microsoft Word (track changes, search, tables, cross-references, document navigation) and familiarity with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical, repeatable approach to quality control.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, contributors, review cycles, and deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate editorial recommendations diplomatically with technical professionals.
- Consistent application of project procedures and document control practices.
Compensation & Work Location
- Employment type: FULL_TIME
- Location: Remote (Telecommute) — role is associated with Herndon, VA.
- Pay range (provided by client): $45,500 — $82,250 per year. This range is a guideline and final compensation considers experience, skills, and other factors.
- Note: The role is remote-eligible but may require coordination with staff in the Herndon, VA region and adherence to client-specific submission schedules.
Security & Eligibility
- Must be able to pass a Public Trust background investigation.
- Due to contract requirements, U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency is required.
- During later-stage interviews, candidates may be asked to enable video for identity verification if an offer is extended.
