Overview

Confidential Client is hiring a Technical Accounting Associate to support technical accounting, equity management, and financial reporting activities. This role partners with the Technical Accounting Manager to research and apply U.S. GAAP to complex transactions including equity, stock‑based compensation, and M&A-related accounting. This is an early-career / developing-technical role ideal for candidates on a CPA track or with public accounting internship experience.

This position is located in Mundelein, IL.
Compensation: $65,000 - $75,000 per year (range provided by the employer).

What You’ll Do

• Assist in preparing and maintaining technical accounting memos (research, documentation, and updates)
• Support equity accounting processes — track issuances, terminations, modifications in the equity management platform
• Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules related to equity, stock-based compensation, and other complex transactions
• Help develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure US GAAP compliance
• Provide audit support: prepare documentation, compile technical accounting support, and maintain audit request trackers
• Research technical accounting topics and summarize findings clearly for internal and external stakeholders
• Support M&A and complex-transaction accounting (purchase accounting, earn-outs, valuations) through data gathering and analysis
• Partner with the broader finance team to identify process improvements and strengthen controls around financial reporting and equity management

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA or CPA-track strongly preferred
• 0–2 years of accounting or finance experience; public accounting internship or similar exposure strongly preferred
• Foundational knowledge of US GAAP and demonstrated ability to research and apply accounting guidance
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to explain complex accounting concepts clearly
• Excellent written communication skills for preparing concise technical memos and documentation
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills for documentation, audit support, and tracking activities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; comfortable working with large datasets and supporting schedules
• Experience or exposure to financial reporting, equity/stock-based compensation, or technical accounting is a plus
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with Accounting, Finance, Legal, and external auditors

• Big 4 or public accounting experience or internships
• Prior exposure to equity management platforms or stock-comp accounting modules
• Formal coursework or practice in technical accounting topics (ASC 718, ASC 805, revenue recognition nuances)
