TAX AUDITOR I
The Tax Auditor I is an entry-level full-time position responsible for conducting routine audits of tax returns and financial records to ensure compliance with state and federal tax laws, specifically managing Motor Fuel Tax accounts. The role involves detailed review, reconciliation, and reporting of tax data, as well as professional communication with taxpayers and collaboration with internal teams to support accurate tax administration and compliance within Confidential Client regulations.

What You’ll Do
This Tax Auditor I role supports a Confidential Client in Accounting & Finance and focuses on routine audits and daily management of Motor Fuel Tax accounts. You will analyze returns and records, reconcile revenue, prepare monthly reports, and communicate audit findings professionally.
- Manage Motor Fuel Tax accounts: establish accounts, monitor for non-filing and outstanding balances, process account changes and amended returns.
- Review Motor Fuel Tax and Dyed Diesel refund claims monthly to ensure accuracy and compliance prior to approval.
- Perform daily reconciliation of Motor Fuel Tax revenue deposits and prepare comprehensive monthly close-out reports with statistical and revenue data for management and external partners.
- Conduct routine audits of tax returns and financial records to evaluate accuracy of reported tax liabilities and identify discrepancies or potential fraud.
- Use auditing software and data analysis tools to identify errors and prepare clear audit reports with findings and recommended adjustments.
- Communicate with taxpayers via written correspondence, phone, and in-person meetings to clarify findings and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain complete, compliant audit documentation (workpapers, correspondence, records) and collaborate with auditors, supervisors, and managers to share best practices.

- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to review and interpret complex financial information.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in examining records and preparing reports.
- Ability to apply tax laws and auditing principles within state regulations.
- Professional communication skills for interaction with taxpayers and internal teams.
- Comfortable working with auditing software and structured audit processes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, business, or a closely related field with a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours of accounting in accordance with ACA 26-17-203.

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $58,700 - $87,876
- Anticipated starting salary: $58,700
