What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking a Systems Engineer to operate and improve on-premises and Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure. In this role you will design, deploy, maintain, and secure server and platform components to ensure high availability and performance across the environment. You will work independently and with cross-functional IT and business teams to deliver solutions, troubleshoot incidents, and drive continuous improvement.

  • Oversee physical and virtual servers, virtualization platforms, storage, backups, and monitoring.
  • Manage and optimize Microsoft Azure resources (VMs, networking, Azure AD, Monitor, Storage Accounts, Resource Manager, Automation).
  • Maintain core services such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and NTP.
  • Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and proactive monitoring.
  • Implement and maintain disaster recovery and backup processes.
  • Use automation (PowerShell and cloud automation tools) to improve reliability and repeatability.
  • Mentor junior administrators and collaborate with vendors to resolve issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage IT operations infrastructure.
  • Optimize system performance and capacity planning.
  • Create temporary workarounds and longer-term fixes for production issues.
  • Perform routine maintenance to ensure availability and reliability.
  • Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to deploy new solutions.
  • Maintain technical knowledge, document systems, and provide mentorship to the team.
  • Engage vendors for hardware/software escalations and lifecycle management.
  • Triage and prioritize critical incidents for rapid resolution.
  • Manage backups, disaster recovery, and data governance activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience) plus approximately 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, DHCP, and DNS.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies—especially Microsoft Azure.
  • Understanding of virtualization technologies and virtual server administration.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PKI, certificate and key lifecycle management.
  • Experience managing endpoint and platform security solutions (Microsoft Defender, SentinelOne, Proofpoint preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive).
  • Proven experience administering Azure infrastructure services (PaaS, VMs, networking, Azure AD, Monitor, Storage, Resource Manager, Automation).
  • Strong PowerShell skills for managing on-premises Microsoft infrastructure (AD, Group Policy, DNS, NTP, IIS, Windows Server).
  • Familiarity with load-balancing platforms (e.g., Kemp) and related concepts.
  • Experience with VMware stack (ESXi, vCenter, vRealize, HA) and shared storage (iSCSI preferred).

Physical Requirements & Safety

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required (steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
  • May frequently reach above shoulder height and below the waist.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, bending; climbing stairs or ladders.
  • Regular interactions with coworkers and vendors during a shift/workday.
  • Occasional lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects.
  • Must follow all site safety standards and procedures.

Compensation & Career Progression

  • Employment type: Full time, Permanent.
  • Estimated salary (from source): $146,257 per year — estimated.
  • Career progression is structured into three steps: Step I (entry-level), Step II (mid-level, ~3+ years), and Senior (6+ years, higher autonomy and scope).
