About the role

Confidential Client is seeking a Substitute Instructor to teach and support adults (18+) enrolled in 3–4 month post‑secondary certificate programs in City of Sunrise, FL. This is a per‑diem / contract opportunity (no guaranteed hours) with work that includes classroom instruction, hands‑on labs, and supervised externships.


What you’ll do

  • Educate students with developmental or intellectual disabilities using the established curriculum for post‑secondary certificate programs.
  • Deliver lesson plans and classroom activities provided within the approved curriculum.
  • Supervise and mentor students at externship sites; help students apply classroom theory in real‑world settings.
  • Teach program coursework such as animal care, entry‑level culinary arts, healthcare operations, hospitality, and material handling; occasionally teach financial literacy, social skills, and daily‑living skills.
  • Administer assessments, assign homework, and monitor lab participation and performance.
  • Regularly travel to and assist at local animal shelters and work directly with cats and dogs (must be comfortable with animals).

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred — fields such as Special Education, Vocational Education, Psychology, Social Work, or related are a plus.
  • Minimum of one year of job experience demonstrating teaching and classroom management skills.
  • Previous experience working with or teaching adults with disabilities preferred.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license and willingness/ability to travel locally to externship and shelter sites.
  • Successful Level II background check, physical exam, and drug screen required.
  • Must be 21 years or older.

Compensation & schedule

  • Pay: $19.00 per hour — per diem / as‑needed (no guarantee of set hours).
  • Employment type: Contract (per diem); schedule varies by assignment and program needs.
