Position overview
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Substation Engineer to join their Grid team in Wilmington, DE. This is a full-time, entry-level engineering role focused on substation and transmission system design. The role includes a hybrid schedule (three days in office, two days remote), potential travel for design reviews and site visits, and may include a relocation package depending on candidate location.
What You’ll Do
- Work on project teams to design high-voltage and extra-high-voltage substations and transmission systems.
- Develop power transmission designs and prepare specifications for procurement of major electrical equipment and installation services.
- Support design reviews with clients and vendors; participate in construction coordination and field verification of designs.
- Use engineering principles, technical plans, drawings, and 3D visualization to support project deliverables.
- Apply automation and AI tools (where appropriate) to streamline calculations, summarize technical documents, and draft design documentation with proper engineering verification.
- Contribute to technical documentation, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering required — strong preference for Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering.
- Understanding of practical electrical engineering applications, systems, principles, and project design processes.
- Knowledge of design techniques, technical plans, blueprints, and the ability to visualize parts in 3D.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.; Confidential Client will not sponsor work authorization for this position.
Valued (but not required)
- MSEE or equivalent from an ABET-accredited program.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or Engineer-in-Training designation.
- Experience with programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations or checks.
- Coursework or experience in coding, 3D modeling/design, and familiarity with agentic AI or AI application development.
- Related engineering internship or co-op experience.
Work arrangement & travel
- Hybrid: expected three days per week in-office (Wilmington, DE) and two days remote.
- Some travel to client or vendor offices and field sites may be required for design reviews and construction coordination.
- Relocation assistance may be available depending on your location.
Compensation & benefits
- Compensation range (base): $62,998 - $90,586 per year.
