What You’ll Do
As a Substation Engineer (Entry Level) you'll join project teams responsible for the design and delivery of high-voltage and extra-high-voltage substations and transmission systems. You'll apply classroom learning to real-world engineering tasks and contribute to design, procurement, and field activities.
- Work on project teams designing new high-voltage and extra-high-voltage substations and transmission systems.
- Prepare specifications and procurement documentation for major electrical power equipment and installation services.
- Support power transmission design tasks, calculations, and design checks.
- Perform field verification and support construction coordination as needed (site visits may be required).
- Use data, automation, scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel), and agentic AI tools responsibly to accelerate design work, reduce rework, and summarize technical documentation.
- Create or use automation to generate calculations, standard reports, and draft design documentation; verify outputs using sound engineering judgment.
- Collaborate with vendors and clients during design reviews and technical meetings.
Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (strong preference for Electrical Engineering; Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering considered).
- Coursework or demonstrated experience in coding, 3D modeling/design, and exposure to agentic AI tools.
- Understanding of electrical engineering principles and their practical application to project designs.
- Knowledge of techniques used to produce technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models; ability to visualize parts in 3D.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfortable learning engineering-specific tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively on multi-disciplinary teams.
- Willingness and ability to travel for design reviews and site visits as required.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- BSEE, MSEE, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT).
- Prior internship or co-op experience in power systems, substation, or transmission engineering.
- Experience designing or developing AI applications, agents, or automation for engineering workflows.
- Programming or scripting skills (Python, MATLAB, VBA/Excel) to automate calculations and reporting.
Work Arrangement & Compensation
- Employment type: Contract / Full-time.
- Hybrid schedule: expectation of three days per week in the office and two days remote.
- Target start: Summer 2027.
- Salary range (provided by confidential client): $62,998 - $90,586 per year.
