What You’ll Do

This entry-level Substation Engineer role supports design and delivery of high-voltage and extra-high-voltage substation and transmission projects. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Work on project teams to support substation and transmission system design.
  • Contribute to power transmission designs and prepare specifications for procurement of major electrical equipment and installation services.
  • Support preparation of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and 3D conceptual layouts.
  • Use data, automation, and modern tools (including agentic AI where appropriate) to improve workflows, reduce rework, and document engineering decisions.
  • Participate in design reviews and coordinate with clients, vendors, and construction teams; travel to offices and sites as needed for reviews and field verification.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and communicate results to project teams and clients.

What We’re Looking For

Minimum required skills and experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (strong preference for Electrical Engineering; Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical degrees also considered).
  • Understanding of electrical engineering principles and practical application to project design.
  • Familiarity with producing technical plans, drawings, and the ability to visualize parts in 3D.
  • Coursework or exposure to coding, 3D modeling/design, and experience using agentic AI tools.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn project-specific software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred (Valued) Qualifications

These are not required but will help your application stand out:

  • BSEE, MSEE, or equivalent from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and EIT designation.
  • Related engineering internship or co-op experience.
  • Familiarity designing or developing AI applications or agents.
  • Programming or scripting experience (Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations and reporting.
  • Additional training/minor/certificate in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or Software Engineering.

Work Arrangement & Location

  • Hybrid work arrangement: expectation to be in the office three days per week and remote up to two days per week.
  • Potential for travel to client/vendor offices and construction sites for coordination and field verification.
  • Relocation assistance may be available depending on candidate location.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation range: $62,998 - $90,586 per year.

  • Eligible employees may participate in discretionary annual bonus programs and other company benefits.
