What You’ll Do

This entry-level Substation Engineer role is an opportunity to join Confidential Client's Grid team and contribute to the design and delivery of high-voltage and extra-high-voltage substation and transmission projects. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Work on multidisciplinary project teams to develop substation and transmission designs.
  • Prepare technical specifications for major electrical power equipment and installation services.
  • Support development of technical plans, drawings, and 3D models; visualize parts and systems in 3D.
  • Perform calculations, design checks, and documentation under senior engineer guidance.
  • Use automation and modern tools (including scripted workflows) to improve efficiency and reduce rework.
  • Coordinate with vendors, clients, and construction teams for design reviews and field verification; travel as needed.
  • Communicate technical information clearly in writing and verbally.

What We’re Looking For

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (strong preference for Electrical Engineering; Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering considered).
  • Understanding of practical electrical engineering applications and systems-level problem solving.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, technical drawings, and the ability to visualize 3D geometry.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred / Valued Skills

These skills are not required but will help you stand out:

  • BSEE, MSEE, or equivalent from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or Engineer-in-Training designation.
  • Internship or co-op experience in power, substation, or transmission engineering.
  • Experience with programming or scripting (Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations or reporting.
  • Coursework or practical experience in coding, 3D modeling/design, or AI applications and agents.
  • Familiarity designing or developing AI-assisted engineering tools (agentic AI) and using automation prudently with strong verification practices.

Working Conditions & Logistics

  • Hybrid work arrangement: expectation of about three days per week in the office and two days remote (may vary by location).
  • Target start date: summer 2027.
  • Role may require travel to vendor/client offices and construction sites for coordination and verification.
  • Relocation assistance may be offered depending on candidate location.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation range (base salary): $62,998 - $90,586 per year.
