What You’ll Do

This Student Nurse Technician role provides hands-on clinical support and unit operations assistance under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will gain practical experience across areas such as inpatient post-surgical units, pre-admission testing, pre-op, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and the Operating Room while supporting safe, patient-centered care.

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living: bathing, grooming, toileting, mobility, and meal assistance.
  • Take and document vital signs; promptly report abnormal findings or patient concerns to the RN.
  • Perform basic clinical tasks under supervision: blood glucose testing, obtaining urine and blood specimens, removing IV and Foley catheters, and performing EKGs.
  • Support nutritional care: assist with menu selection, tray delivery, feeding, documenting intake/output and calorie counts; notify RN of missing meal trays.
  • Prepare, collect, and transport specimens, documents, and equipment as needed.
  • Assist with patient transfers, transport, discharge activities, and escorting patients to pre-op or testing areas using proper identification.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment: disinfect rooms, beds, chairs, and equipment; restock supplies; replace sharps containers; maintain blanket warmers and temperature logs.
  • Manage linens: distribute clean linens, collect soiled linens, make beds, and report maintenance or laundry issues.
  • Support unit operations and staff: assist caregivers and unit clerical staff, answer phones, and perform other assigned duties under RN supervision.

Qualifications

Applicants should be actively pursuing clinical nursing training and able to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.

  • Education: Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program (Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Nursing). Completion of at least one clinical rotation preferred.
  • Experience: Previous patient care or customer service experience preferred.
  • Technical skills: Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly; basic math skills to record patient data accurately.
  • Interpersonal skills: Strong communication and teamwork skills for working with patients, families, and care teams.
  • Clinical knowledge: Familiarity with basic medical terminology and clinical abbreviations is preferred.
  • Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) required within 3 months of hire.
