Role overview

Confidential Client is an engineering, design, and construction management firm supporting oil & gas, heavy industrial, mining, and manufacturing projects across North America. This entry-level Structural Engineer role places you on real projects quickly — designing equipment foundations, pipe racks, platforms, and steel structures — with close mentorship from senior engineers.

What you’ll do

  • Perform structural calculations for project-specific tasks, typically cast-in-place concrete foundations and structural steel for heavy industrial and manufacturing facilities.
  • Design equipment foundations, towers, building structures, pipe racks, and platforms.
  • Produce structural analysis reports and clean, checkable calculation sets.
  • Review vendor drawings and shop drawings; answer RFIs from contractors.
  • Coordinate with structural AutoCAD designers to develop 3D facility models and construction drawings.
  • Create contractor scopes of work and contractor bid packages; write specifications (e.g., pre-engineered metal buildings, geotechnical).
  • Participate in field visits, site walkdowns, and construction support to connect designs to installed conditions.
  • Learn and apply industry codes and standards; receive and act on QA/QC feedback to improve deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with emphasis in structural engineering.
  • Previous full-time experience is not required — this is an entry-level role.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills to coordinate across disciplines and document technical information.
  • Basic proficiency with design/analysis software and common engineering technology.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under company policy.
  • Willingness to work in-office (this is not a remote role). The hiring location for this posting is Wheat Ridge, CO.

Preferred

  • FE exam passed or EIT certification; intent to pursue PE licensure.
  • Exposure to structural analysis tools (RISA, STAAD, SAP2000, etc.).
  • Familiarity with ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360.
  • Internship, co-op, or capstone experience in heavy industrial, mining, or manufacturing facility design.
  • Any hands-on plant, field, or construction exposure.

Compensation, schedule & travel

  • Compensation (posted): $78,000 – $93,600 per year.
  • Employment type: Full-time (Contractor classification may also apply per client notice).
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, typical daytime hours.
  • Travel: Up to 20% (field visits, site walkdowns).
  • FLSA status: Exempt.

Why this role

  • Real work, early — produce deliverables that go out the door with senior review.
  • On-the-job mentorship and a defined career track (Structural Engineer 1 → 4).
  • Field access to see what you design built in the real world.
  • Team-based, collaborative environment across multiple offices.
