Position Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Structural Designer to join an engineering team in Houston, TX. This role supports development of structural drawings, models, and documentation across building projects while working under the supervision of experienced engineers. Ideal candidates are collaborative, detail-oriented, and eager to grow technical design skills using BIM and structural design tools.

What You’ll Do

• Support project teams in creating structural design documentation, plans, models, and technical reports
• Assist in developing structural designs using sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and calculations
• Use BIM tools to build three-dimensional models of structural systems and prepare construction documents
• Produce and revise drawings across project phases (floor plans, framing plans, sections, details)
• Perform basic structural calculations for defined structural elements under guidance
• Coordinate structural designs with architectural and other engineering disciplines
• Review shop drawings and submittals; help prepare responses to RFIs
• Participate in site observations and field observation reporting as needed
• Attend coordination meetings with internal teams and external consultants
• Support basic cost estimating and value-engineering tasks as assigned
• Apply applicable design standards, codes, and established engineering practices under supervision

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design Technology, or related field — or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
• 0–3 years of structural design, drafting, or engineering experience (internships, co-ops or academic projects accepted)
• Basic understanding of structural engineering and building design principles, including gravity and lateral systems
• Familiarity with common structural materials: steel, concrete, masonry, and wood
• Working knowledge of construction drawings and engineering documentation
• Ability to develop and interpret plans, sections, details, and structural models; strong attention to accuracy
• Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred / Helpful Skills

• Experience with Revit (preferred) and familiarity with BIM-based workflows
• Exposure to AutoCAD, Newforma, RAM Structural System, Tekla Structural Designer, RISA, Enercalc, or similar tools
• Previous internship or co-op experience on building projects
• LEED Green Associate or other relevant credentials
