The Static Stress Engineer (Contract) at Confidential Client supports in-service aircraft structural repairs by performing static stress and strength analyses using classical and numerical methods. What You’ll Do
This contract role supports in-service repair of aircraft structures and provides static-stress justification for repair solutions. You will deliver safe, certified, and cost-effective repair solutions on schedule while collaborating with design, fatigue, and certification teams.
- Create integrated, certification-ready repair solutions for airlines and internal customers.
- Perform static stress/strength analyses using hand-calculations and computer methods (FEA) for metallic and non-metallic parts.
- Execute durability and damage-tolerance assessments to verify structural integrity and compliance.
- Coordinate with Design, Fatigue, and senior static engineers to produce optimal repair outcomes.
- Prepare structural sizing, documentation, and certification support for in-service fleet repairs.
- Respond to routine repair queries and provide clear technical guidance to operations and customers.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency and tools/methods effectiveness.
- Plan, monitor, and execute Repair Engineering tasks to meet customer timeframes.
Location & Work Type
- Location: Andover, KS (work location is anchored to the job — candidates should expect regular coordination with the local engineering facility)
- Role type: Contract (temporary assignment; may be extended or shortened as business needs dictate)
- Onsite / Remote: Position is primarily site-aligned but may permit some remote work depending on business needs
- Travel: Up to ~5% domestic/international travel
Required Qualifications
- BS in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil) with strong emphasis on structural design, mechanics of materials, and stress analysis.
- 0–6 years of analysis experience in airframe design and/or repair programs.
- In-depth knowledge of classical stress methods and numerical (Finite Element) analysis.
- Familiarity or exposure with airframe design topics such as composites, MRB processes, FAR/JAR/CS/Part 21 and certification principles.
- Practical experience or exposure to tools such as NASTRAN, PATRAN, HYPERWORKS, CATIA is desired.
- Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and G-Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Engineering.
- MRO or fleet engineering experience (in-service repair background).
- Experience with Python scripting for analysis automation.
- Conversational French and/or German is a plus.
Physical & Work Environment
- Regular computer and meeting work; ability to read screens, drawings and technical documents.
- Ability to carry or lift items up to ~30 lbs infrequently.
- Able to participate in teleconferences and in-person meetings.
- Work will interface with an engineering facility located on a university innovation campus; team size supports cross-functional collaboration.
