About the Role
Confidential Client seeks a vocational Welding Instructor (State Teacher I) to deliver career and technical welding instruction within a correctional education program. In this full-time role you will teach hands-on welding skills, prepare assessments, maintain training records, and support inmate rehabilitation through workforce development.
What You’ll Do
- Provide classroom and hands-on welding instruction consistent with Colorado Community College System (CCCS) standards and applicable licensing/certification requirements.
- Develop course content, lesson plans, competency-based learning aids, and assessment tools.
- Deliver individual and group instruction promoting occupational, academic and transitional skills.
- Administer written, oral and performance assessments; document student progress and competencies for certification.
- Maintain inventory, secure storage, and safe operation of tools, equipment, and hazardous materials per agency regulations.
- Observe and evaluate student work; provide feedback and remediation to support successful completion of training.
- Support facility safety and security protocols while teaching and supervising students.
- Participate in training, conferences and program evaluation to keep curriculum aligned with industry standards.
- Collaborate with colleagues to improve program outcomes and industry connections.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications & Required Credentials
Applicants must meet one of the following minimum qualification paths and document all experience in detail on their application:
- Associate’s degree in welding or related field AND 4,000 hours of verified occupational welding experience within the last 7 years (no substitution for the 4,000 hours);
- OR -
- Current state, national, industry, military, or union welding license/certification AND 4,000 hours of verified occupational welding experience within the last 7 years (no substitution for the 4,000 hours);
- OR -
- Bachelor’s degree in welding or related field AND 2,000 hours of verified occupational welding experience within the last 7 years (no substitution for the 2,000 hours).
Additional conditions if hired:
- Obtain a CCCS post-secondary welding credential within 6 months of hire.
- Obtain a Colorado Community College Professional Teacher Credential within 3 years of hire and maintain required credentials while employed.
Transcripts or copies of licenses/certificates must be attached to the application. Paid and unpaid occupational experience must be clearly described and does not include teaching experience unless specified.
Required Competencies & Skills

- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Experience teaching or training adults in a welding or vocational environment.
- Ability to manage safety and security while instructing in a correctional setting.
- Emotional resilience and ability to remain alert and observant during shifts.
- Ability to produce accessible documents and technical content that adhere to plain-language and accessibility best practices.
- Valid U.S. work authorization at time of application; employer cannot provide H-1B sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in welding.
- Prior experience mentoring or training in an industry welding environment.
- Demonstrated connections to the welding workforce and commitment to continuous program improvement.
Working Conditions & Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license (state requirements apply).
- Must successfully pass a background investigation and pre-employment medical screening.
- No felony convictions as defined by applicable statutes; some conviction histories will disqualify applicants who would have contact with offenders.
- Must successfully complete required correctional basic training modules (including defensive tactics and related physical requirements) and pass associated written and practical assessments.
- Willingness to work various shifts, including days, afternoons, and nights, and to travel as required.
- Exposure to Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) may occur during training and while on assignment.
- Drug testing applies to new hires; random drug testing may occur during employment. Certain roles may have specific restrictions related to marijuana use.

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $6,022 - $9,636 per month (approximately $72,264 - $115,632 per year).
