Role Overview
Confidential Client is hiring entry-level Startup Engineers (New Graduates) to support commissioning, startup, and early operations for large-scale infrastructure and industrial projects. This program is designed for recent graduates who want hands-on experience in startup/commissioning activities across project sites, regional offices, or corporate locations.
What You’ll Do
- Support equipment and system operation per process design during startup and commissioning phases.
- Assist with startup test procedures, execution of work orders, shift reporting, inventory tracking, sampling, and analysis.
- Operate control room panels and support electrical/mechanical systems under supervision.
- Conduct system walk-downs in coordination with construction and maintenance teams prior to turnover.
- Help identify, troubleshoot, and resolve operational issues to ensure systems meet design intent.
- Compile and evaluate data, perform basic calculations and preliminary analyses of test results.
- Provide input to engineering, operations, and project deliverables related to operability and startup.
- Coordinate assigned work with technical personnel and follow established safety and quality procedures.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (completed within the past 12 months or within the next 12 months) in one of: Electrical (including Electronics and Computer), Mechanical, Chemical, Marine, Industrial, Nuclear Engineering, or Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university.
- Eligible for a university hire/new graduate program (typically within 12 months of graduation).
- Familiarity with basic design of electrical/controls systems, mechanical process systems, and process controls.
- Technical knowledge or exposure to startup, commissioning, operations, or maintenance activities.
- Basic oral and written communication skills and working knowledge of common software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to complete pre-employment screening (drug test, background check, physical if required).
- Legal right to work and remain in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience from internships, co-ops, or prior startup/commissioning roles.
- Familiarity with operations/maintenance practices for oil & gas, petrochemical, power, or offshore facilities.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to obtain project-site or government-related clearances, where required.
- Willingness to relocate or travel to project sites as assignments require.
Location & Work Arrangements
- Primary authoritative posting location: Reston, VA. Assignments and final placement will be based on business needs and candidate qualifications.
- Opportunities may require travel or temporary relocation to project sites, regional offices, or construction sites.
- Telecommute/remote arrangements may be possible for specific roles, but many startup assignments require on-site presence.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range (reported): $83,004 - $99,612 per year. A location-based uplift (e.g., ~15% for NYC or SF-based roles) may apply where noted by the client.
