Program Overview

Confidential Client is hiring University Hires (new graduates) into an entry-level Startup Engineer role as part of a structured University Hire program. As a Startup Engineer (New Grad), you will join cross-discipline teams executing commissioning, startup, and initial operations for major infrastructure and energy projects across the United States. Assignments may be in regional offices, project execution offices, construction sites, or other field environments. Final placement is based on business needs and candidate qualifications.


What You’ll Do

  • Assist with equipment and system operation in accordance with process designs during commissioning and startup phases.
  • Support startup activities including work orders, shift reports, inventory, sampling and analysis, control room panel operation, and system cleaning.
  • Compile, evaluate, and correlate data for procedures, system files, and test results.
  • Provide input to and review startup test procedures, engineering and operations deliverables, and project models related to operability and startup.
  • Perform walk‑downs and component/system commissioning under close supervision.
  • Conduct basic calculations and preliminary analyses to evaluate test outcomes.
  • Coordinate assigned work with other technical personnel and perform field consulting activities as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exercise increasing judgment while performing assigned startup tasks under supervision.
  • Execute specific portions of broader startup assignments using prescribed methods.
  • Receive technical and administrative supervision from more experienced Startup Engineers or Startup Supervisors.
  • Participate in project design reviews and assist in preparing operations manuals.
  • Support maintenance and commissioning activities under direction.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical (including Electronics/Computer), Mechanical, Chemical, Marine, Industrial, Nuclear Engineering, or Engineering Technology from an accredited college — graduation within the past 12 months or within the next 12 months.
  • Eligible for a University Hire program (typically hired within 12 months of graduation).
  • Familiarity with basic design of electrical & controls systems, mechanical process systems, and process controls.
  • Technical knowledge of startup, commissioning, operations, or maintenance.
  • Basic written and oral communication skills and familiarity with common software tools.
  • Able to complete pre‑employment drug screen, background check, and a physical if required for a project site.
  • Right to work and remain in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related engineering discipline.
  • Internship or co‑op experience in startup, commissioning, or operations.
  • Familiarity with operations and maintenance practices for oil & gas, petrochemical, power, or offshore facilities.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Willingness to relocate to project or jobsite when needed.
  • Depending on assignment, US citizenship or the ability to obtain Department of Defense/Department of Energy or project site clearance may be required.

Location & Travel

  • Work locations: Various locations across the United States. Roles may be telecommute‑eligible for some assignments, but many assignments require on‑site presence at project locations or offices.
  • Travel: May require travel and temporary relocation to project sites. Be prepared for field assignments and variable schedules depending on project needs.

Compensation

  • Salary range (posted): $83,004 - $99,612 annually. Final salary is determined by education, experience, and qualifications.
  • A location‑based uplift (example: 15% for New York City or San Francisco assignments) may apply where noted and permitted by local laws.
