Overview

Confidential Client is seeking a full-time Staff Special Education Teacher to join their Teaching team in New Haven, CT. The Special Education Teacher will develop and implement lessons, write and execute IEPs, monitor student progress, and collaborate with related-services staff to create a supportive instructional environment for students with diverse needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans tailored to individual student needs
  • Deliver classroom instruction and adapt teaching strategies as needed
  • Create, write, and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Initiate and support student evaluations and document progress
  • Provide behavioral management and interventions
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on student progress regularly
  • Attend and participate in team, family, and IEP meetings
  • Collaborate with related-services staff (e.g., therapists, counselors) to address student needs

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 months of related teaching experience (including student teaching or internships)
  • Valid state special education certificate appropriate for Connecticut
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred

  • Experience working with students across a wide range of disabilities
  • Experience with autism spectrum disorder and emotional disabilities

Physical & Other Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English
  • Visual and hearing acuity required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform prolonged walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and twisting as needed
  • Ability to reposition students and move equipment without assistance when required
  • Work environment may include exposure to allergens and occasionally to blood, bodily fluids, or infectious materials
  • Must adhere to confidentiality standards and professional boundaries
