About the Client
Confidential client is a technology company developing next-generation, high-performance computing systems and infrastructure used in advanced research and production environments. They partner with semiconductor and systems integrators to build scalable hardware and software platforms that solve complex, mission-critical problems. This role sits within a multidisciplinary OS/Core software team that works closely with hardware, systems, and research engineers.
About the Role
Confidential client is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer focused on databases and scalable system software. You will design, implement, and scale the graph database and distributed storage components of a fault-tolerant control plane and operating system that manage large, heterogeneous compute fabrics. This role emphasizes Python and/or C++ system development, distributed storage and graph-db architecture, and production-grade reliability.
What You’ll Do
- Design, extend, and maintain scalable graph database systems that form the core control fabric for large-scale systems
- Implement high-performance, fault-tolerant storage and data-access layers in Python and/or C++
- Participate in architecture and code reviews; drive design decisions across software, hardware, and validation teams
- Develop algorithms and controls to keep complex compute fabrics operating within strict parameters
- Test, validate, and optimize database and control software for reliability and low-latency operation
- Champion best practices: automated tests, documentation, version control, and observability for critical systems
- Research and integrate new technologies to improve performance, scalability, and maintainability
Qualifications
- 15+ years of professional experience developing system software in Python and/or C++
- Proven experience designing and implementing large-scale distributed storage systems
- Deep experience with graph database concepts and hands-on work with graph DBs (Nebula, Neo4j, or similar preferred)
- Strong background in distributed systems engineering, high-performance computing, and data architecture
- Understanding of computer architecture, low-latency networking, and mission-critical uptime requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field — or equivalent experience
- PhD in a relevant technical discipline is a plus but not required
- Clear track record of shipping reliable, production-grade software in complex, multidisciplinary environments
Preferred / Helpful Skills
- Experience with graph database internals, query optimization, and distributed graph partitioning
- Familiarity with containerization, orchestration, and CI/CD for system software
- Experience working closely with hardware teams to co-design software/hardware interfaces
- Background in observability and large-scale system monitoring and alerting
Benefits
- Competitive salary aligned with experience and expertise
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits
- Equity or long-term incentive opportunity
- Flexible work arrangements, including remote options where applicable
- Professional development and continuous-learning support
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge systems with cross-disciplinary experts
