STAFF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
The Staff Occupational Therapist at Confidential Client is responsible for evaluating patients and planning occupational therapy programs to aid in their physical and mental rehabilitation. This role involves designing and implementing therapeutic activities, instructing patients in self-help skills, and collaborating with rehabilitation teams to maximize patient independence and functional recovery. The position requires hands-on patient care, adaptive equipment fitting, and maintaining detailed progress records in a hospital setting.

What You’ll Do
The confidential client is seeking an entry-level Staff Occupational Therapist to evaluate patients and deliver purposeful therapeutic activities that restore or maintain adaptive skills and independence. In this role you will:
- Plan and conduct medically prescribed occupational therapy programs in hospital, institutional, or community settings.
- Develop activity programs (manual arts/crafts, ADL training, prevocational/vocational and homemaking skills).
- Instruct patients in self-help skills (eating, dressing, writing) and use of adaptive equipment and prostheses.
- Evaluate patient functional levels, daily living skills, interests, and capacities.
- Coordinate treatment goals and activities with the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team (including physical therapy).
- Plan and lead therapeutic exercises, perceptual training, and skill drills to restore joint motion, strength, dexterity, and coordination.
- Design and fit non-complex splints, braces, and adaptive devices under supervision and by prescription.
- Select and adapt constructive activities to maximize independence and prepare patients for return to employment or community living.
- Observe, document, and report patient responses and progress; maintain required records and charts.
- Adapt equipment and environments and determine supplies for therapy activities.
- Encourage and motivate patients and assist in developing sociofunctional living skills.
- Perform additional duties as required to support patient rehabilitation.
Qualifications
- Education
- Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program with a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience
- Minimum of six months of supervised occupational therapy experience acceptable to the New York State Board for Occupational Therapy, required.
- Licenses & Certifications
- Must possess a limited permit to practice Occupational Therapy issued by the New York State Education Department and have applied for or taken the licensing exam administered by the American Occupational Therapy Association OR possess a current New York State license and registration as an Occupational Therapist.
- Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of occupational therapy theory, techniques, adaptive equipment, and therapeutic crafts.
- Ability to motivate and instruct patients, plan and implement activities, and accurately document progress.
- Competency with basic computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, email, scheduling, databases).
- Good judgment, manual dexterity, creativity, emotional maturity, and physical ability to meet job demands.
- Must have sufficient English language proficiency to perform essential job duties.
Compensation & Location
- Location: Arlington, NY (worksite with the confidential client).
- Employment Type: Full-time.
- Estimated pay: $63,711 per year (estimated). Exact compensation and benefits will be provided by the confidential client during the hiring process.
