Position overview

Confidential Client is hiring a Staff Geotechnical Engineer (entry-level / 0–2 years) in West Valley City, UT. This role offers hands-on field and laboratory experience supporting geotechnical exploration, analysis, and reporting for infrastructure and commercial projects. Ideal for recent graduates or early-career engineers looking to develop practical geotechnical skills under experienced mentorship.


What You’ll Do

  • Plan and execute geotechnical exploration programs and site investigations
  • Perform field soil logging and collect samples for laboratory testing
  • Conduct laboratory and field test interpretation to assess subsurface conditions
  • Analyze soil and site data; perform geotechnical engineering calculations
  • Prepare clear geotechnical reports and technical documentation for review
  • Support and guide field inspection teams during site activities
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to meet project schedules
  • Assist with evaluating team performance and identifying training needs
  • Perform general office and project administrative tasks as needed

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Geotechnical, Civil, Geological Engineering, or related degree
  • 0–2 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience (Utah experience preferred)
  • Foundational knowledge of soil mechanics and geotechnical analysis
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Team-oriented, professional attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to solve engineering problems

Preferred / Nice-to-have

  • Internship or co-op experience in geotechnical engineering
  • Familiarity with field logging, laboratory soil testing, or foundation design
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentorship potential, or site supervision experience
  • OSHA 10 or 30-hour construction safety certification (preferred)

Compensation & logistics

  • Pay: $28.00–$33.00 per hour (based on experience)
  • Location: West Valley City, UT (on-site / field work required)
  • FLSA status: Exempt (as indicated by Confidential Client)
  • Schedule: Hours may vary depending on project needs
  • Employment type: Full-time (direct hire with Confidential Client)
