Overview
Confidential Client is seeking a Staff Engineer – Highway/Traffic to join their Highway & Traffic team in Wall, NJ. This entry-level to early-career role is focused on roadway design and traffic engineering tasks, providing strong exposure to transportation projects, design software, and interdisciplinary project delivery.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with the design and preparation of roadway and traffic engineering plans (alignments, profiles, signage, striping, MOT/maintenance-of-traffic).
- Support traffic engineering studies including traffic impact analyses, signal warrant studies, and capacity analyses.
- Collect and analyze field data (traffic counts, turning movements, site observations).
- Prepare technical reports, calculations, plan notes, and supporting documentation.
- Use engineering/design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Synchro, and HCS.
- Coordinate with internal project teams across disciplines and participate in client and project meetings.
- Support construction-phase services including shop drawing review and field inspections.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
- 0–2 years of relevant experience — internships or co-ops are a plus.
- Basic understanding of roadway and traffic engineering principles.
- Familiarity with NJDOT, AASHTO, and MUTCD standards is preferred.
- Experience or coursework using AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Synchro, HCS, or similar.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate effectively on project teams.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Compensation
- Projected compensation (as listed by the client): $70,000 – $77,000 per year. Actual pay will depend on experience, education, and qualifications. Performance-based bonus programs may apply.
