Role overview

Confidential Client is hiring a Staff Engineer — Geotechnical to join their growing geotechnical team in Hackettstown, NJ. This is an entry-level/full-time opportunity to develop practical soil mechanics and foundation engineering skills through field investigations, laboratory coordination, technical analysis, and report preparation on diverse AEC projects.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and executing geotechnical field investigations (soil borings, test pits, site reconnaissance).
• Log soil and rock samples per industry standards.
• Coordinate and review laboratory testing of soil and rock materials.
• Perform basic geotechnical analyses under senior engineer supervision.
• Support preparation of geotechnical reports with recommendations for foundations, earthwork, and site development.
• Participate in construction observation and field inspections as required.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, structural, environmental).
• Maintain accurate field notes, data records, and project documentation.
• Follow company safety standards and field protocols.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field required.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Solid understanding of soil mechanics and foundation engineering principles.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with geotechnical software is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness and ability to perform fieldwork outdoors in varying conditions.
• Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering — preferred but not required.

Benefits & Compensation

• Benefit packages begin on day 1 and include medical, dental, vision, HSA/FSA/DCFSAs where applicable, and 401(k) retirement plans.
• Employees receive paid sick leave and other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
• Projected compensation range: $70,000 to $77,000 per year. Actual pay depends on experience, education, and qualifications. Annual bonus program may apply.
