About CareerTakes

👉 Important disclosure: Careertakes is a third-party recruiting platform supporting this hiring process. If selected, you will be employed directly by our client, Technology & Internet (Software Development & IT Services).

Applicants for this role may also receive access to additional matched opportunities through the Careertakes platform.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the forecasting team as the technical owner for key company metrics (for example, monthly active users). Drive the strategy, architecture, and delivery of production forecasting systems that are accurate, interpretable, and operational at scale.
  • Own the full modeling lifecycle: problem framing, feature engineering, model development and prototyping, experimentation and back‑testing, deployment, monitoring, drift detection, and explainability.
  • Define technical standards and the forecasting platform roadmap; partner with engineering to ensure efficient training/inference and future scalability.
  • Translate forecast outputs into decision-ready recommendations and scenario analyses for senior leadership (regular VP-level exposure).
  • Expand time-series impact beyond point forecasts to include anomaly detection, automated root-cause analysis, attribution, and early-warning signals for business health.
  • Embed forecasting into business rhythms by partnering with BizOps, Finance, and Product to operationalize insights and influence strategic plans.
  • Mentor and raise the bar for at least two data scientists through hands-on technical guidance, code review, and career coaching.

Who You Are

  • A seasoned forecasting practitioner with strong product and business orientation who prioritizes impact and clarity.
  • Comfortable owning ambiguous problems and simplifying them into measurable objectives that inform decisions.
  • A technical leader who balances model rigor (calibration, uncertainty quantification, interpretability) with pragmatic production constraints.
  • Excellent communicator who can explain complex uncertainty and tradeoffs concisely to executive audiences.
  • A collaborator who partners effectively across engineering, product, finance, and operations to ensure models influence outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of combined post-graduate academic and industry experience building and shipping production time-series/forecasting models with web-scale data.
  • Proven track record delivering calibrated, explainable forecasting systems used for decision-making.
  • Strong background in time-series modeling, applied statistics, and econometrics; advanced degree (MS or PhD) preferred.
  • Expert in Python (or equivalent scripting language) for model development and experimentation.
  • Strong SQL experience (Hive / Presto / Spark SQL) and experience designing reliable data pipelines/workflows (Airflow or similar).
  • Experience with model deployment, monitoring, drift detection, and back-testing frameworks.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership on critical projects and experience mentoring other data scientists.
  • Comfortable presenting technical results and their business implications to senior stakeholders.

Preferred (nice to have)

  • Experience with large-scale forecasting systems, probabilistic forecasts, state-space models, or modern deep time-series methods.
  • Familiarity with MLOps tooling, feature stores, or streaming data architectures.

Logistics & Compensation

  • Employment type: Full-time
  • Location: US-based (role is TELECOMMUTE with in-office collaboration roughly 1–2 times per quarter). The role can be situated anywhere in the United States; occasional travel for in-person collaboration may be expected.
  • Relocation: This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
  • Work authorization: US-based applicants only.
  • Compensation (posted range): $164,695—$339,078 USD. The position is also eligible for equity. Final pay is determined by location, experience, and relevant skills.
