Overview

Confidential Client is hiring a Staff Accountant (Accountant I) to join a small, collaborative finance team on the UCA campus in Conway, AR. This is an on-site, full-time position (eligible for one remote workday per week after six months). Candidates must live within commuting distance. Anticipated starting salary: $58,700. Salary range: $58,700 - $86,876.


What You’ll Do

  • Create and maintain accounting records for the general ledger, grants, contracts, receivables, expenditures, assets, and inventory.
  • Process journal entries and reconcile projects and accounts; identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Establish and manage grant and contract accounts: billings, invoices, drawdowns, budget mods, expense transfers, and receivable transactions.
  • Handle accounts receivable and accounts payable, including travel-related transactions.
  • Prepare financial reports, spreadsheets, and database files to support budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
  • Analyze financial data, trends, revenues, expenditures, and obligations to project budget needs.
  • Follow purchasing and travel procedures to ensure accurate account coding and compliance with Finance Management Guide and State Travel policy.
  • Assist management in improving accounting systems, procedures, and automated financial processes.
  • Provide technical assistance on accounting, budget, grant, and financial policy questions to staff and external stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 6 months of Arkansas state accounting experience using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) while processing transactions through an automated accounting software system.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of governmental accounting principles, budgeting, and financial reporting practices.
  • Familiarity with applicable state and federal financial laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
  • Experience with AASIS or SAP (entering transactions and running reports).
  • Intermediate or higher proficiency in Microsoft Excel (creating accounting spreadsheets).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, communication, and attention-to-detail skills.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $58,700 - $86,876 (Anticipated starting: $58,700).
